Spookadelia

Spookadelia and Spookadelia 2: The Candy Conjuring were immersive installations at Spectra Art Space on Denver’s South Broadway. The story of the original Spookadelia 1 installation in October of 2019 centered around the Spectra Specter, a supernatural spirit being coming to the human world to reality check viewers with a creepy-magical takeover of this urban area. The gallery space at Spectra was transformed into a family-friendly spooky realm, including psychedelic illusions, blacklight sorcery, interactive sculptures, videos, and more. In part 2 of this installation in December of 2019, the Specter’s witchy friend, Sugar Plum Scary made an appearance to transform the space into a delicious winter wonderland, complete with villainous humans transformed into candy confections.

These installations required the brains, hands, and artistic know-how of many local Denver artists, including PussayHaus, which was tasked with building the Spectra Specter’s bedroom: an explosion of pink and purple lights, second-hand stuffed animals, a yonic form made from fabric and padding, paintings, and interactive hidden elements. Clouse also assisted in the furniture of the gingerbread structure in the outdoor portion of the installation, transforming reclaimed vintage furniture into ice cream cakes and smores.
